American Express Credit Cards

American Express offers a variety of credit cards and charge cards for consumers, small business owners and corporate customers. They are separated below by credit cards (that allow you to revolve balances) and charge cards (that must be paid off each month) for each customer type. These cards have no annual fee, unless otherwise noted.

American Express Credit Cards - Consumer

True Earnings® Card from Costco and American Express - Costco members or those who want to become Costco members can apply for this credit card that gives generous cash back rebates --- a 3% rebate on gas and restaurant purchases, 2% on travel purchases, and 1% on all other purchases.

Delta SkyMiles Platinum Credit Card from American Express - Earn 1 Delta Airlines SkyMile per dollar in purchases. Also offers a 20,000-mile bonus after your first purchase (including 5,000 elite status Medallion Qualification Miles). In addition, you'll get one free companion Coach Class ticket each year upon renewal. Annual fee is $150.

Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express - Starwood is the parent company of hotel chains including Westin, Sheraton, St. Regis, W Hotels, and more. This card allows you to earn 1 point per dollar and use points at Starwood hotels, or exchange points for frequent flyer miles on over 30 major airlines. You can also get plenty of bonus points: earn up to 25,000 Starpoints® --- enough for up to 6 free nights at a category 1 or 2 hotel. No annual fee for the first year, $45 per year after.

Blue from American Express - Offers American Express' Membership Rewards Express® program that gives 1 point per dollar spent on the card, with points redeemed toward travel, merchandise, more.

Blue Cash® from American Express - Earn up to 5% cash back on gas, groceries and drug store purchases, and up to 1.5% back on all other purchases. (Exact formula: 1% cash back on gas, groceries and drug store purchases and 0.5% on other purchases for the first $6500 spent with the card, then 5% back on gas, groceries and drug store purchases and 1.5% back on other purchases.)

Blue Sky® from American Express - Earn 1 point per dollar spent with this card, then use those points toward direct savings on travel purchases, up to the full cost --- Every 7,500 points equals $100 off your travel purchases, up to the full amount of the travel cost.

 

American Express Charge Cards - Consumer

American Express Preferred Rewards Green Card - The traditional American Express "Green" card offers Membership Rewards points at one point per dollar. Points can be used for merchandise or travel rewards, including the ability to transfer points on a one-to-one basis into frequent flyer programs of 17 different airlines. You'll also get the American Express benefits you'd expect, such as buyer protection and travel insurance.

The card has no pre-set spending limit, but of course you must pay off your balance each month. The Green card has no annual fee for the first year, then it's $95 per year.

American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card - If you move up to the American Express Gold Card, you'll get similar benefits to the Green card, with a few extra perks. First off, you'll get a bonus of 10,000 Membership Rewards when you spend $500 with the card in the first 3 months of having it. For a limited time, you can also earn double membership rewards points on gas and groceries for your first year. You'll also get access to some Gold Card-only events such as specials on concert tickets, sporting events, theater tickets, more.

The card has no pre-set spending limit, but of course you must pay off your balance each month. The Gold card has no annual fee for the first year, then it's $125 per year.

 

American Express Credit Cards - Business

Blue for Business from American Express - Basic lower interest business credit card that also offers the Membership Rewards Express program, which awards one point per dollar and allows points to be redeemed for travel, merchandise, gift cards, more.

American Express Platinum Business Credit Card - Similar to the Blue card above with lower interest rate and Membership Rewards Express program.

 

American Express Charge Cards - Business

American Express Business Green Rewards Card - The traditional American Express "Green" card for Business offers Membership Rewards points at one point per dollar. Points can be used for merchandise or travel rewards, including the ability to transfer points on a one-to-one basis into frequent flyer programs of 11 different airlines. You'll also get the American Express benefits you'd expect, such as buyer protection and travel insurance.

The card has no pre-set spending limit, but of course you must pay off your balance each month. The Green card has no annual fee for the first year, then it's $95 per year.

American Express Business Gold Rewards Card - If you move up to the American Express Gold Card, you'll get similar benefits to the Green card, with a few extra perks. For example, you'll get the same bonus of 5,000 Membership Rewards when you use the card for the first time, but you can also earn other bonuses based on your purchase amounts.

The card has no pre-set spending limit, but of course you must pay off your balance each month. The Gold card has no annual fee for the first year, then it's $125 per year.

 

American Express Corporate Card - American Express offers a number of corporate credit card programs for larger companies. You can get some basic information online and express initial interest via an application, but ultimately you will need to have an American Express representative contact you to work out the details.
