Yesterday’s article by Gail Liberman and Alan Lavine MarketWatch runs down some options if you are in credit card debt and need a lifeline. While going to your credit card company and asking for a lower interest rate or a “debt workout” might help, watch out for the possibility of a ding on your credit report as a result. New bankruptcy rules have made Chapter 7 bankruptcy harder — Liberman and Lavine suggest going to this site for a “means test” to determine if your financial situation would qualify you for this type of debt protection.
