It’s PONG Versus Roddick in New American Express Commercial

As part of its sponsorship of tennis’ U.S. Open, American Express has introduced a new commercial that pits American tennis star Andy Roddick against the crafty white rectangle from the first-ever video game, PONG. As Rich Lehrfeld, Vice President, Global Sponsorship for American Express, puts it, ?We had a lot of fun creating this spot where Andy, renowned for his bullet serve, takes on PONG, arguably the world’s strongest baseline player.? In the spot, Roddick is at first surprised to find PONG across the net, then even more surprised to find PONG able to return anything Roddick can serve. Complementing the TV spot is an online game, StopPong, which allows you to play Pong in your own tennis match. American Express is also planning other U.S. Open specials, including the chance to sit courtside with tennis champions such as Chris Evert, Monica Seles and Billie Jean King.
