American Express announced last week that GE Consumer Finance would be the latest large-scale credit card company to begin issuing credit cards on the American Express payment network. The first card launched under this agreement is the Dillard’s American Express Card from Dillard’s department stores. Since getting the green light from the courts to compete with Visa and Mastercard as a credit card payment processor, American Express has aggressively pursued partnerships with major credit card issuers, having struck deals with Bank of America, MBNA, Citibank and HSBC prior to this latest announcement.

The new cards will carry the American Express logo and be accepted on the American Express merchant network. GE Consumer Finance will be responsible for issuing cards, managing customer relationships and providing customer service and billing. Dillard’s department stores include 330 locations in 29 states.
